PICO Cheiron Group is an independent exploration and production company focusing on revitalizing and optimizing production at medium-sized mature fields. Our interests span the range of oil and gas upstream activity — from exploitation to full field development planning and operations.
From its robust base in the Egyptian mature fields region, the Group is actively expanding into international markets in need of its particular brand of expertise, with operations and assets in Mexico and Romania.
Chief Executive Officer
Mr. David Thomas is a seasoned oil and gas industry professional with over 35 years of experience in the sector. He started his career as a petroleum engineer with Conoco, working in the UK and Dubai before moving into reservoir engineering and asset management positions. Subsequently, he joined Lasmo where he became the Group GM Operations and, following the company’s acquisition, held three regional Vice President roles with Eni managing the North Sea, Russia/Asia/Australia and West Africa asset portfolios. Subsequently, David has served on the Board of various public companies including as the President and COO of Centurion Energy, CEO of Melrose Resources and COO of Petroceltic International. He is currently acting as a Non-Executive Director on the Gulf Keystone Board. He has a BSc in Mining Engineering from Nottingham University and an MSc in Petroleum Engineering from Imperial College.
Operations General Manager
With 36 years of oil and gas experience under his belt, Mr. Medhat El-Sayed assumed the role of Operations General Manager at PICO Cheiron Group in February 2016. He has served on the board of many companies such as Tharwa Petroleum, Petrobel, and Petroleum Marine Services (PMS). He received a Bachelor of Science in Petroleum Engineering from Suez Canal University in 1980 and started his career as a Petroleum Engineer at Petrobel, moving his way up the ladder in the company to Section Head, then Department Manager and eventually became the Department General Manager in 2004 before becoming Chairman of the Board and Managing Director of the company in 2006. He joined PetroGulf Misr in December 2012 as General Manager and Managing Director.
With 31 years in the oil and gas industry, Mr. Iain Knott has developed strong technical and commercial competencies across a range of upstream and downstream disciplines, including exploration, field development, new ventures, project management, and gas storage. Mr. Knott has experience in both large and small operating companies with a wide geographical reach including basins and projects in Europe, Russia, Africa, Middle East, South East Asia, and South America. He spent most of his career working at various firms in the UK, such as BG Group, Burlington Resources, Elixir Petroleum, and most recently, Berkshire Land & Energy, in various roles, from Senior Geologist to New Ventures and Geo-science Manager to Exploration Manager. During his time at Burlington and Elixir, he gained considerable expertise in techno-economic assessment of unconventional resources.
